We often hear in our day to day life that people say ‘I have acidity’. But have you ever noticed what does it mean? What is gastric problem or acidity?

The food we swallow passes into the stomach through the esophagus. The gastric glands present in it secretes more acid than the need for the digestion process. A person feels a burning sensation under the diaphragm. This condition is called an acidity or gastric problem.

This condition mainly occurs when the stomach acid flows back into the food pipe. Most of the people never realize that acidity occurs due to the poor diet and lifestyle. When these symptoms occur more than twice or thrice a week, then the doctor may diagnose it with acid reflux.

What are the causes of gastric problems or acidity?

The gastric problem occurs due to the excessive production of acid in the stomach by the gastric glands. Most of the factors that cause acidity include:

Some medical conditions are also responsible for the cause of acidity such as diabetes, connective tissue disorder, asthma, etc. It is also more prone in pregnant women, obese and women who have menopausal symptoms.

What are the symptoms of gastric problems?

The symptoms of gastric problems may differ from person to person. But the causes that may contribute to the acidity are almost similar. The most common symptoms are the burning sensation under the diaphragm. Other symptoms that may vary:

· Burning sensation in the abdomen

· Pain in the throat

· Difficulty in swallowing of food

· Frequent burping without any reason

· Heartburn

· Regurgitation of food i .e., bitter taste acid that regurgitates into the mouth.
